San Juan Island Library is auctioning surplus library metal display shelving. Bids are due July 10. Shelving is available for inspection at the Library. Steps. KING-TV’s popular show Evening Magazine is doing a series of stories called, “Just A Ferry Away”. On Thursday, July 2nd at 7:00 PM on KING-TV they will be featuring Friday Harbor. Steps is one of the features. I do not know how much coverage we will get, but they interviewed me asking about our local producers, filmed a little bit of cooking in the restaurant and a handful of our dishes. It should be great as they will also be showing some of our local kayaking and other venues around the island. Come on in for happy hour from 5-6 that night and then run home to catch it at 7:00.

Wednesday, July 1 at 1:30 p.m. Summer Reading Program Singer Bubblefunalia with Gary Golightly.  Friday Harbor Elementary School, free. Using recycled products and mainly stuff from thrift stores, Gary Golightly, the Bubbleman, blows and sings his way into the grandest bubble world imaginable.
Wednesday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m. Anticoagulation Therapy Presentation with Dr. Lowy. Cardiologist Dr. Jonathan Lowy will be visiting our Library to discuss Anticoagulation Therapy.  Heart and blood vessel disease affects 1 in 3 people, and is the leading cause of death in the nation.  In conjunction with Inter Island Medical Center, Dr. Lowy will be speaking with the community and discussing the effects of Anticoagulation Therapy.  This event is free and open to the public. 
Thursday, July 27 p.m. Practice Spanish Conversation.  Join with others working to improve their Spanish speaking ability by conversing together for an hour in the library.
Maloula Restaurant. 5-Course 4th of July Fireworks Dinner!  July 4, starting at 9:30pm.  Includes appetizers (hummus and spanakopita), salad (caesar), soup (red lentil curry), main course (choice of asian seafood bowl, chicken biryani or morrocan eggplant) and dessert (baklava and coffee).  $64 per person.  View the fireworks from one of the best spots in town!  Reservations required. Arctic Raven.  Sunday, July 12, 2 PM, acclaimed Northwest Coast Native artists Rande Cook and Francis Dick will bring their culture alive by connecting the elements of art and song in a presentation entitled, “In Creation the Raven Sings.” The event, which is co-sponsored by the Arctic Raven Gallery, Skagit Valley College and The San Juan Island Library, will be held at the Friday Harbor Grange and is free and open to the public. Saturday, July 4, 11:30 am (after the parade) - 4 pm on the San Juan Historical Museum Grounds on Price Street, presented by Kiwanis of Friday Harbor.
Old-fashioned Fourth of July Celebration with plenty of food (BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, coleslaw, chips, hot fudge sundaes, drinks).  Lunch only $5!
Beer garden with locally-brewed beers.  
Musical entertainment by Anthemology, The Ottomatics, Sugar on the Floor, and the One More Time Band.
Activities and kids' games, including a pie-eating contest, egg toss, three-legged race, face-painting, a bucket brigade and a cakewalk. 
Fourth of July Parade Awards at 1:30
National Park Ranger Mike Vouri will tell the "Pig War" story, and Battery D will make an appearance.
